In September 2024, a mysterious guest, the Venerable Ogu, the abbot of Ogu Monastery in Dege County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, visited my home. He gifted me a box of Tibetan incense. As the incense burned, a familiar and long-lost aroma instantly transported my memories back to 2010 when I was circumambulating the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa. Events from over a decade ago were connected by the wisps of fragrance. Everyone’s sense of smell and preference for scents are different, and just by chance, I truly enjoyed the scent of this Tibetan incense. After that, when reading or working at my desk, I would light a stick of Tibetan incense, and to my surprise, I found that my focus and efficiency were enhanced. In my studio filled with the fragrance of Tibetan incense, my mood became relaxed and joyful. In that moment, I suddenly had an idea: I wanted many people to experience the magic of Tibetan incense.

I live in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, where some Tibetan residents live. Thus, I embarked on learning about Tibetan incense culture, visited Tibetan areas, and consulted with several incense makers. I discovered that the Tibetan incense made by different monasteries and folk incense makers varied. For each person, the truly good scent must be one that matches their sense of smell and brings joy to the soul from within. So, I ultimately chose two types of Tibetan incense that resonated with my soul, and I wanted the unique fragrance of Tibetan incense to please the souls of more people around the world. Later on, I wanted to retain the rich scent of Tibetan incense for a long time, so I learned to make Tibetan medicinal incense beads.
